Visits with Kids

All visits can be done virtually!

One of my favorite things is hanging out with kids and helping them tap into their unique voices and imaginations while inspiring them to read and create! I hope my workshops, presentations, and school visits do just that. The following offerings are perfect for classrooms, libraries, nonprofit organizations, extracurricular groups, and creative venues. Plus, they can be facilitated online.

I've presented in a variety of venues in the past including Los Angeles Public Library, 826Boston, arts spaces, the LA Times Festival of Books, SoCal Nerdcamp, and schools.

Now scheduling! You'll find my school visit info in one place here.

Please contact me if you have any questions about offering or rates—I'm here to help make these visits useful and accessible.

To Make Visit

To Make + making plan visit: picture book reading; imaginative video; an interactive discussion of the story, creative process, and patience. Plus, an inspiring activity for kids to draw/write their own sequential plan to make something wonderful. Optional craft if materials provided. approx. 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Children will write a collaborative story via the steps, “gather, make, wait” that correspond to phases of the writing process. They’ll leave with tools to write one on their own. Together, we’ll gather story elements from To Make, make a story according to their choices, and wait for our revision to be done in order to celebrate and share it. approx. 30 minutes to 1 hour.

"Shoe Story": Participants will write an eight-line (and eight-page) partly true, party made-up story about their shoe in a mini book! It's a fun, engaging, step-by- step way to absorb narrative structure while creating a zany story to keep. approx. I also offer a version of this workshop with Todd Davis that teaches stop motion animation! 45 minutes. 7 - 12 year-olds.

Free Skype Q&A
