I'm Danielle Davis
CHILDREN'S BOOK WRITER, EDITOR, COLLABORATOR
Hello!
I'm Danielle Davis. I grew up in Singapore and Hong Kong and now live in Downtown Los Angeles.
My first picture book is To Make, art by Mags DeRoma, from HarperCollins. My first middle grade novel was Zinnia and the Bees.
I'm represented by Amy Thrall Flynn at Rubin Pfeffer Content.
I swim and write and edit picture books and help kids and writers tap into their own unique voices and imaginations. I love visiting schools and libraries to read and craft with kids as well as collaborating on animation projects.
I answer creative process questions at Swimming is Writing on Substack.
I volunteer with Reading to Kids in Los Angeles and am a member of SCBWI and the Children's Media Association.
I blogged about picture books at This Picture Book Life.
My creative writing YouTube channel for kids was This Writer's Life, and contributed to KidLit TV.
I've got an M.A. in literature and creative writing, and a number of years ago, I had the privilege of teaching English to middle school and then community college students.
Some of my short stories have been published in literary magazines, and most recently, I published an article, "Story Breath: Inspiration for Plot and Pace in Picture Books," in the SCBWI Bulletin, with material from my picture book revision workshop.
